The Art of Stat: Resampling app is a contemporary statistical tool designed specifically for educators and students engaged in the study of statistics.

This application facilitates the computation of bootstrap confidence intervals and permutation P-values, presenting the procedures in an interactive manner that enhances user comprehension. It includes several preloaded sample datasets for exploration while also allowing users to input their own data or import CSV files.

The following resampling methods are incorporated:

  • Bootstrap Confidence Interval for a population mean, median, or standard deviation.
  • Bootstrap Confidence Interval for a population proportion or population odds.
  • Bootstrap Confidence Interval for population correlation (Pearson and Spearman) and population slope of a regression model.
  • Bootstrap Confidence Interval for the difference of two population means or medians.
  • Permutation Test for a population mean or median.
  • Permutation Test for the difference between two population means or medians.

Future enhancements will include:

  • Permutation Test for the independence of two categorical variables (Permutation Chi-Squared Test).

The application streamlines the process of finding bootstrap confidence intervals through various methods, including percentile-based approaches. Users can compare results regarding the population mean against traditional techniques based on the Student-t distribution.

Each procedure comprises three distinct screens:

  1. Enter Data: Users provide their data and receive descriptive statistics accompanied by relevant visualizations (Histogram, Boxplot, Bar Chart).
  2. Simulate Distribution: Generate the sampling distribution (or null distribution for permutation tests) for a selected statistic.
  3. Confidence Interval/Permutation P-value: Utilize the generated distribution to derive the confidence interval or permutation P-value, complemented by extensive supporting information and comparisons to classical central-limit-based inference.

Additionally, the app features a Data Editor spreadsheet, allowing users to enter, edit, and save their own datasets effectively.
